SEMNA

BACK

After five successful editions, this year we celebrate 6 years of the SEMNA conference — Egyptological Week at the National Museum in Rio. D. Pedro II — the second and last emperor of Brazil — was the first in the country to pursue academic Egyptological knowledge. He visited Egypt twice, and continuously corresponded with Mariette and other of his friends today known as fathers of present-day Egyptology. D. Pedro II increased the number of Egyptian objects in the Brazilian collection, bought by his father D. Pedro I. Today the Rio collection is the largest in Latin American, with more the 700 objects.
