Holds a BA in History from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he also acquired his MA in Social History. His PhD in Social Anthropology was undertaken at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). He is Associate Professor of the Historical Institute at UFRJ and teaches in the Graduate Program in Comparative History. His focus is on religious experiences, in particular in Christianity.
