Holds a BA in Political and Social Sciences from the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo (1987), an MA in Social Science (Social Anthropology) from the Universidade de São Paulo (1993), a PhD in Social Science (Social Anthropology) from the Universidade de São Paulo (1999), and a Postdoc at the Institut Français d’Archeologie Orientale du Caire (2008). He is currently a professor at and the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Archaeology of the National Museum of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and an assistant researcher at the Institut Français d’Archeologie Orientale du Caire. He is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the International Comittee for Egyptology (CIPEG). He is experienced in the field of archaeology, with an emphasis on Egyptology. His research focuses on the following topics: Ancient Egypt, Egyptian archaeology, Egyptian funerary beliefs, Egyptian art, and mummification. He is the coordinator of the Seshat Laboratory.
